Gluten-free Products

This page is meant to be a help to those who just got to know that they ought to live gluten- free.

2 Months ago my son got “Zöliakie” and I have to switch the food and way of cooking totally.

At first I saw a problem in realizing it.

So I searched for information about this illness in the internet and tried to find out which products he still can eat and which not. When I went for shopping I noticed that gluten- free products in  health food shops are quite expensive. Especially fresh food as e.g. bread, rolls and cake. Furthermore the choice is very limited.

So I decided to do as many gluten- free products own my own as I can.

These informations I want to spread to everybody who is in a similar situation.

What is “Zöliakie” ?

I couldn’t find the English expression of this illness so I had to stick with the German one.

Zöliakie is also named Sprue. It is a chronical illness of the small intestine. The root of this illness lies in the indigestibility of the gluten which can be found in wheat, rye, oats, barley and unripe spelt grain.

What do I have to do ?

All products containing those corns and everything containing gluten may not be eaten.
This isn´t too easy because gluten can´t just be found in brea, rolls and cake but also in souces, soup, sweets, drinks, and many more.

As replacement maize/ american corn, rice, bukwheat, Quinoa and millet can be used. Today one can lean on a variety of gluten- free products which eases the diet. On all those products the symbol of being gluten- free is shown as a crossed- out ear.

Today one can do a lot of things on his own. At first I wrote to some companies which produce food to receive a list of products which are gluten- free. There is also a list of producers which already put such a list of gluten- free products on their homepage.
